Getting Started with FreeCAD
May 11, 2019 @ 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm EDT
FreeCAD is an open-source parametric 3D modeling software made primarily to design real-life objects of any size. Parametric modeling allows you to easily modify your design by going back into your model history and changing its parameters.
FreeCAD and KiCad have moved closer together recently, and now there’s a nice framework available that connects the two. It allows us to design electronic components in FreeCAD, export them to KiCad such that they align perfectly with the KiCad footprints, re-export the finished KiCad PCB with all components as a CAD file so that we can design an enclosure for the electronics.
The workshop facilitator will give a quick walk through to help you get started with working in FreeCAD.
Participants must bring their own laptop and have FreeCAD already installed. An external mouse with a scroll wheel is highly advisable (but not required) to help make navigation with the application much easier.
